Adding Content

Located in the middle of the left side bar is a series of links designed to help you add content to the main page of the website. They are broken down by different sections.

  • News - Information important to the school as well as daily updates of student activity.
  • Calendars - Add events to the school calendar that will appear on the calendar and on the upcoming events section on the homepage. More about calendars here.
  • Photo Album - Place pictures here of cadets doing things that relate to the whole school in general. Separate albums can be created for your class and other activities on those respective pages.
  • Bulletin Board - The Bulletin Board is a semi permanent section for important news that needs to spend more time on the homepage. This does not include your homework assignments or other information that fits in the news section.
  • Links - These are important links for Parents, Staff and Students. They are separated into different links pages for these different people. Please place all links important to your class or activity in those pages.
  • File Manager - The place to control uploaded documents and information. This is more for the site administrator than the average teacher.

News

When you click a link, for this instance News, it will take to the main News page. (see below)

You are presented with a list of current news items. The first five of which appear on the website. To add News click the Add News button. If you want to skip this list and right to adding news click the Add News link in the left sidebar.

Adding News

Adding news is just like adding any other information to your web page. Give the news a title which will appear bold on the main page. A summary is a short sentence explaining the news story that will appear on the front page under the title. A summary is not important but can be helpful. Fill in the text of your story. You can also attach any pictures, files or weblinks that can help in the explanation of the news item. When you are finished click Save.

Photo Album

The Photo Album link takes you to the page where you can create photo albums of school wide events. This is great for when the school marches in a parade or takes a field trip. Individual sports and classroom photo albums are best kept on those respective pages.

Click Create Album to create a photo album. Give it a name and press OK. Under the Main section are a list of previous photo albums. The X is for deleting the album and the R is for revising an existing album. Be careful not to adjust anyone else's albums. To up load photos click the Upload Photos button.

The Upload Photos page opens and a Java Applet will load. Once it is done you will see a page like this. You have the choice of either dragging your photos into the blue rectangle in the middle of the page or using the Browse button to search for photos on your computer. Click the Upload button when ready to add a picture. The progress bar will fill up as the photo uploads. You can use any size picture and Educational Networks will resize the image as well as add a thumbnail to the photo album. When done click the I'm Done Uploading link at the bottom of the page.

When done you will be taken to your album. Here you have many options within your album. You can rename the album; create a new one and place subcategories within the album to highlight more pictures. You can select individual pictures by clicking the small squares then at the bottom choose one of the many options to improve, rotate or add captions to your pictures. Once you are done click another link and the album will save. These are the same steps involved in adding an album to your teacher page.

Bulletin Board

The Bulletin Board is for placing semi-permanent news items so that they can be reviewed for longer periods of time, like a year. This is where something like the article on the Parent Portal is placed. Adding to the Bulletin Board is identical to adding to the News section.

Links

The Links section is designed for website links that are commonly used by Parents, Students and Staff. The links are separated into categories. If you have certain links you would like students to access for your class, please add them on your class page. The process is the same as it is here. Click Add Link to add a link.

Fill in the information as below. Make sure you give the link a name for that is how it will appear in the list. A short description will help in the understanding of the link. When finished click save.

File Manager

The File Manager is where major changes can be made to the websites files. There isn't really a need for anyone other than the Site Administrator to access this site. You have access to the File Manager in order to upload files from other places in the website. Unless you have been trained as the Site Administrator you do not need to access the File Manager.
